2022 Yearlong Course: Embracing Climate Crisis as a Spiritual Path

by Lin Wang Gordon

"Action on behalf of life transforms. Because the relationship between self and the world is reciprocal, it is not a question of first getting enlightened or saved and then acting. As we work to heal the earth, the earth heals us.” - Robin Wall Kimmerer

Meditate in Nature

"Nothing supports the opening of the heart and mind like the beauty, tranquillity, and silence of the natural world. When we meditate in nature, we bring a receptive presence to the natural world. It comes alive—and so do we.”

- Mark Coleman, from Spirit Rock Meditation Center, author of the book Awake in the Wild

Testimonials

“It would seem that nature-based meditation and technology would not be very compatible, however, Lin Gordon’s creative and organized approach to a socially distanced virtual meditation program was fantastic. The day followed a clear structure and the practices such as tree meditation and square footage truly helped me to deepen my meditation practice and connect with nature.” - A participant from a hybrid online/offline program - "Cultivating Resilience and Wisdom through Nature-Based Practices"

"I have been meditating for a few years. I thought I know a little bit about meditation, but I realized I know so very little about the different ways to meditate and experience and feel. We did some amazing practices which really made me present and allowed me to experience things in new ways." - A participant from a city park event

"A meditative hike does not just combine hiking and meditation – instead it creates an entirely different experience altogether...Lin’s careful planning and skillful tailoring of the hike created an experience which heightened our awareness and enhanced our ability to connect with nature and each other in a meaningful way." - A participant from a fall hike

About

Lin Wang Gordon has been practicing insight meditation in the last decade under the guidance of Jonathan Foust and Mark Coleman. In stillness and silence, she discovers the transformative power of mindfulness practices to help live a life of flow, joy, grace and gratitude.

Lin was particularly moved by the power of nature meditation practices to connect with a deep sense of love, wonder, resilience and belonging.  She graduated from Mark Coleman’s Awake in the Wild Nature Meditation Teacher Training in 2017 and has since taught at New York Insight Meditation Center and around the country.  She was part of the Spirit Rock’s Community Dharma Leaders Program (CDL6).

She offers nature meditation programs from half days in city parks, hikes in the Hudson Valley, to weekend retreats. She also teaches ecodharma to help people face and engage with climate crisis from a place of love, wisdom, compassion, and equanimity.  She co-hosts the Sacred Earth Sangha of the New York Insight Meditation Center.
